It's time to shed some light on this product from Dermalogica. Map 15 Regenerator is part of the Age Smart line that has been available from Dermalogica for approx 3.5yrs now.This is an anti-aging or preventive product recommended to be used on fine lines and large pores. It is a fantastic product and does, if used correctly do exactly as promised. I have used it on and off over the past few years and never cease to be impressed with it. But I will be honest with you, this is not one of our top selling products in Nu Essence and from a consumers point of view I think I can understand why.

Firstly Map 15 Regenerator is a little bit differant to most skin products on the market these days. This product is in fact a powder, which is something we don't see very often. The guys in The international Dermal Institute who are behind the development of all Dermalogica products had good reason to make it this way. Map 15 Regenerator is a high concentration of Vitamin C along with some other highly active ingredients and this product is most stable and effective in it's purest form. So therefore they have not diluted or comprimised the quality by putting it into cream or serum format. The true beauty behind this product is the fact that once it is applied to the skin it turns into a silky emulsion that blends efficiently into the skin.

Secondly (in my opinion) a reason why this is a slow seller is the price!!! eur99 RRP for 8g bottle, definatly a bit steep for these days when we are all chasing value. But the thing is, this is an investment product and by this I mean you are paying for the best of the best in terms of active ingredients and pure quality. Map 15 Regenerator is for the smart management of skin ageing it delivers results when used directly on problem areas to dramatically improve skin firmness, increase hydration and elasticity while helping to prevent the signs of aging.

Dublin Beauty Salon of The Year 2011

Dublin's inaugural living awards where hosted in the prestigious Mansion House last October. The awards where the brain child of Des from Alchemy and put together with a view to boosting business and spirits in our fabulous capital city. I first noticed an add about the awards in the Metro Herald so I checked out the website and was delighted to see a category for Beauty Salon ( there where 20 categories in total). We had no excuse not to enter, I filled in the application and submitted our entry. To be honest I pretty much forgot about it all until the morning I got an email to say the shortlist had been selected.( A panel of well known Dubliner's were invited to put together a shortlist of nominees across all the categories.) As you can imagine we where thrilled to have made it to the short list. We where up against some really well known Beauty Salons.

Once Shortlisted it was out of our hands, winners where chosen through a public vote. All we could do was urge clients, family and friends to vote for Nu Essence. Voting closed a few days prior to the awards and according to sponsors Vodafone 37,000 votes where cast across all categories.

Taking home the award for Dublin's Best Beauty Salon 2011 was a major high for all the Nu Essence girls.Each and every member of the team here strives to give our clients the very best service and treatment and having so many votes cast in our favor was almost like a great big thank you from our Clients.

Soon after the arrival of Shellac, oce we realised it was here to stay we also brought in Gellarations polish by Jessica Nails. Our main reason for introducing a second line was to give clients more colour choice. Shellac at the time had only 11 colours, Gellerations had over 40. Gellerations is exactly the same in application, price and longivity. Most clients make a choice of which one to have based on colour rather then product.

It's been almost a year since we started to do nails in Nu Essence, when I say nails by that I mean Shellac and Geleration, before their arrival we only offered regular manicure, pedicures, file & paint.... the basics, if you like. I first started to hear about two week nail polish in the summer of 2010, this could be good I thought, most people don't bother having their nails done because it so frustrating if they chip after a day or two! After a little research we spoke with the girls in CND Ireland, yes they confirmed Shellac polish last's two weeks, dries instantly, goes on like a polish and all the other great things about it. The downside to that conversation was the news that we would have to wait 4-5 weeks to get it into Nu Essence, apparently CND in the US could not make the product fast enough. Our 5 week wait turned into 7 weeks, tensions where rising, so many clients where asking if we stocked Shellac and some clients booking in advance. Never before have we had a treatment that was selling before it even arrived in.
The first week of October saw the arrival of the long awaited Shellac, we hit the ground running,as the saying goes, it does exactly what it says on the tin!! Shellac is amazing, it last two weeks (and in some cases longer)the polish never looses it's shine, the polish can withstand any sort of punishment (trust me, I've tried them all) Once it's removed properly Shellac will not damage your natural nail bed. We love it, clients love it. A product that is quickly applied, average application time is 40mins, gives the nails a long lasting groomed appearnce and is easily removed. Shellac is definatly not a beauty 'fad' it's here to stay.

Shellac Two Week Polish is available in Nu Essence, we charge e30 for a regular block colour and e35 for a french polish. This application includes shaping of the nails, if you feel your nails could do with some cuticle work also prior to application then a Shellac Manicure is available for e40.

For a Shellac application on the toes we charge e35 and a full Shellac pedicure which includes cuticle work and dry/hard skin removal from the feet we charge e65.

Towards the end of 2010 Dublin saw the arrival of subscription websites offering some of the most amazing offers & deals. Like so many of you I signed up to 2 or 3 of them, sure why not it's free! Pretty soon my inbox was bulging with daily and weekly offers from a variety of businesses in the greater Dublin area. This has got to be the positive side of our recesson I thought, the consumer is getting more value for their euro. Golf Lessons, Yoga classes, weekend getaways, dinner in well know restaurants, spa treatments the choices are endless.
Soon enough Nu Essence was approached by these websites offering us the chance to advertise with them. "It's free to advertise with us", they all said. Just put together an offer and we will do the rest, the day your Salon offer goes live you have the potential to sell up to 1000 vouchers and these are all new client for your Salon. A win win situation for all, customer gets a bargain, business gets lots of new customers everybody is happy.
But we held back, it seemed like a gimmick.
Could Nu Essence cope with the influx of a few hundred new clients in a short space of time? Would we be so busy with our new clients that our long term loyal clients couldn't even get a booking with us? Would we be so rushed off our feet that our standards droped? We decided to avoid these offer websites and sit tight.
Over time our regulars started to mention various offers they had seen or bought. This made me worry. Why should our clients have to change salons or travel out of their way to get a special offer.

It is just over two weeks since Nu Essence was forced to close against our will. As you can imagine this has been an extremely anxious time, not just for me but also for all our staff and clients.The staff have backed me 100% and they each have spent hours waiting in the High Court with us while our case was battled. As an employer I feel a responsibility to the girls to get them back working.
The support and understanding from clients has been amazing and this has proven to me that I need to do everything within my power to get Nu Essence up and running again. The most encouraging thing of all has been the support from 'strangers'. The plot thickens

According to the decision made by the judge in the high court on Tuesday last, our ex landlord had until the close of business yesterday to return all files, documents, client and company records and our salon computer. He didn't stick to his side of the deal. By half five yesterday they had not arrived at the allocated address. So I honestly don't know if it was a genuine mistake or if he is not sticking to the rules.
I'm off to my solicitors office now to try sort this out. The stress levels are staring to rise....

Irish Times Debut

I finally manged to get Nu Essence mentioned in the paper. Today our story appeared in The Irish Times. A few of the facts are incorrect but overall it's not a bad account of all the happened so far.
Sadly the only thing they neglected to mention was all the rent I gave my ex Landlord from January 2008 - April 2009 was not given to the Owner but kept for his own personal use!

Today was possibly the most intense so far. The majority of our day was spent in Court 14, Mr Delaney fought our corner and a very good job he did too. Nu Essence succeeded in what it set out to achieve. Our ex Landlord has been given 7 days to return all goods seized and 24 hours to return all client files and records.
This is the first step in getting Nu Essence back in action and we are thrilled to report that we will all do whatever possible to honor all our clients.

Can you believe this ????

Shocking as this may read I feel I owe it to all Nu Essence clients to explain what has happened in Nu Essence over the past few days.

I have no desire to name names in this blog however I have been assured that details of our case will be made public due to proceedings in the high court.

Nu Essence was set up in 2006 and upon starting the business I signed a 31 year lease that was a Sublet lease (Basically my landlord was not the owner of the building he had a further Head lease with the Owner of the premises) For over two years all went well, we paid our rent on a monthly basis and out landlord in turn paid the Owner. Towards the end of 2008 I was made aware that my Landlord was not keeping to his side of the lease agreement, he was not passing our rent on to the owner. What he did with our money I am not sure but the owner was out of pocket and my position as a tennant was also in jeopardy. Foolishly we continued to pay rent and he continued to keep the money. Early 2009 the Owner contacted me to let me know he was taking legal action on the matter. Legal advice given to me at the time was to stop giving the rent to the landlord. I contacted the Owner and offered to pay him directly, however he declined because there was no binding contract between us. We needed to cut out the middle man!!

Time passed we put all our focus into running Nu Essence expecting this 'Rent issue' to resolve itself.

Fast forward to May 2010, yes Nu Essence has broken the terms of it's lease. A fact we where fully aware of but felt we had no other choice. We where still waiting for the Circuit Court to dissolve the lease between our Landlord and Owner then we could clear the rent arrears, start a new lease with the owner and go forward with our business.

At 6.30pm on Wednesday 12th May 2010 our Landlord came into Nu Essence, told all staff and clients to leave and started to change the locks. He was accompanied by six men who proceeded to start taking equipment and stock from the salon. Staff where prevented from contacting the Guards or myself ( I was at home) You can only imagine the shock staff experienced, they presumed it was a robbery given the fact that they where totally unaware of the 'Rent Issue'.

According to our advisors he was fully within his rights to reposses the premises but not to seize our stock, equipment, client data base and files. Since the 12th of may we have been refused re entry to the premises, access to our files etc.Most frustrating of all we have been unable to contact clients or access any business files effectively everything has been frozen. We have started High Court proceedings to secure the safe return of all goods, stock, fixtures and fittings. Our cases is scheduled to be heard in the High Court on Tuesday 25th May. Until then we are in limbo. Thanks to the skill and expertise of the guys at Phorest we have been able to get a copy of our client data base today and we will now focus on contacting as many of you as possible.

Support and understanding from clients, staff , friends and family has been heart warming and has given me the determination to fight.

It's been a rocky start to 2010 in Nu Essence. Our new year kicked off with an unfortunate flood that damaged a large portion of the salon. After almost four weeks of waitng we finally got the go ahead on Feb 3rd to start renovations. Brothers Domnic and Stephen arrived to rescue Nu Essence, it was not a pretty job, at times all I could see of the boys was their eyes because they where black from haed to toe. This came from ripping down ceilings that where over 100 years old!! But i'm glad to say that work has gone at a fantastic rate and we are hoping to re launch on Monday 15th.
We hope to come back with a bang and make up for lost time, all the staff are excited about meeting up with clients. As promised I am going to write a short review of one of our products that we stock in Nu Essence, I'm jumping in at the deep end and starting with our Decleor top seller....Hydra Floral anti-polllution flower nectar Moisturising Cream. A bit of a mouthful but most commonly known as Hydra floral. This cream is available in two forms a cream or emulsion and this is basically to suit the needs of differant people, some of us love the texture of a nice rich nourishing cream on the skin, while others (usually those prone to breakouts) prefare a nice light emulsion, at the end of the day it all comes down to personal choice.

Friday can be a strange day in Nu Essence, some Fridays we are hectic, but then you get one like today where it just potters along with steady stream of customers through the door. The bad weather we have been having this week has not helped business. we had a handful of cancellations due to people not being able to travel, and who can blame them? This morning it took me 45mins to do a journey that usually take 10min, so I was nice and late arriving in, luckily I'd no clients first thing.

But anyway enough about me , Today in Nu Essence we have been able to put some Dermalogica Age Smart Kits on half price offer. Third time lucky! This will be the blog of my dreams and it has only taken three attempts to get it right. I started the first one last August but took the wrong approach so it was more about my life rather then the Salon. The second failed miserably, I set it up straight away forgot all the login details and even it's name.
So here it is 'The Nu Essence of Beauty' will be my shining star, my plan is to write this blog as a backup to our website and Newsletter, I am very much an amature at this (and probably really bad at spelling) so please bear with me and hopefully I'll get it right..As I said I hope to keep everyone updated on Treatments, Products and also Special Offers available in Nu Essence. One idea is to run a product of the month campaign where I pick a random product form any of our ranges and showcase it for the month.... this is still a vague idea I have so give me a week or two to get started.

Our Feburary Newsletter was sent out yesterday and in it I asked readers to add us to their friend on Facebook and we'll give them 10% off, it seemed to work well, within an hour of sending we had five or six friend requests....Not Bad!Please feel free to do the same. The offers we have this month include discount on our Laser Courses, we have put together some great packages and are now giving clients the option to pay in installments without interest. Some of our skin care products are reduced upto 50% this month aswell( we want to clear as much stock as possible before our year end on Feb 28th).For all our die hard waxers out there we have 30% off all specialised waxing in the run up to Valentines day.
